Maybe I'm just not as adventurous as I used to be (some would say, 'reckless' ;) ), but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the logic board from a G5 w/iSight that I've been given to have a look at. What happens is that the unit powers on, the LCD display slightly brightens (getting power) but stays dark, and that's it. No beeps, boops or other responses beyond that. If you remove the RAM chips, the LED power lights gets mad and blinks at you, but that's about it. On the board itself I get the two diagnostic LEDs lit. The third never even flickers.

I've taken it apart, and I'd like to check the capacitors on the logic board, but Internet support for this model is limited since it's nowhere near as easy to work on as a regular G5. It probably won't be worth it to replace anyway, since they seem to go for $500-$1500+, but at this point I'm more curious than anything. If a new cap or two can solve this issue, bonus! Otherwise, since the warranty is WAY out the window, to recycling it goes...

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions to get me over this hump.

I did some deeper digging on his site and found a link to scribd with the information. Unfortunately, they want you to upload something in exchange (most of which would violate copyright laws) or pay for a subscription.

No thanks. Guess I'm still stuck. The more I think about it the more I wonder if it isn't just a case of bad caps. I might take another run at it tonight and see if I can't figure it out on my own.

Okay, I opened my eyes this time and got the two screws that I'd missed. No joy, though. The caps look good. Guess it must be the X600, although 'no chime' is usually bad CPU/RAM/Logic Board... Internet info on this just isn't comprehensive enough. Guess I'll just be throwing it all in the trash, sans hard drive, Intel C2D T7200 chip and RAM...

It was a different logic board than any I had seen pictured, although similar.
