I'm going to be trading a friend of mine's computer. He has an iMac G5, but the fans are constantly on and it sounds like its about to take off and fly.

His video messed up and Apple replaced it. After that, the computer is running properly and its just the fans now that seem to be running in full blast.

His imac is a Rev. A 17" iMac 1.8Ghz G5.

If anyone has had this problem, let me know how you got to fix it. Thanks!

Sounds like the original problem was the leaking capacitors that came with lots of rev A iMac G5 (mine included.)

Mine is currently in service getting the logic board replaced again, i have had so many problems with this computer. If they dont fix this problem for me this time i am going to press for a full refund. Considering the drop in prices i could easily afford a 20" reasonably speced version for the ammount i paid for my 17".

The solution is to get apple to replace the lower fan (the one that cools the cpu heatsink). I had the same exact machine and took them 3 repairs to replace the correct fan. Afterwards, it was significantly quieter but was still annoying. The final solution was to sell it on ebay and buy something else.

It's actually been in the Apple Store 3 times to get fixed. I figure I'd trade my friend my Powermac and maybe I can go get it fixed by Apple. The iMac G5 still has 1.5yrs of Applecare left.

How many times does the iMac have to mess up in order for it to qualify in receiving a newer iMac? Maybe w/ an iSight built-in hopefully lol.
