whats up people im a recent "switcher" and would like to get a list of games that will run nice on my imac, thank you. I know its not a "gaming rig" and im not a hardcore gamer i just like to play games every now and then.

On its ways is a:
20' imac 2.4 dual core
2gigs ram
500gb hd
and the 256mb vc

What kind of games are you into?

That setup can run most games decent. Also, most games are scalable.

Im into any games that kicks a$%,driving,1st person, flying sims,strategy...
when you say good what kind of frame rate?

Got Company of Heroes running on bootcamp at 1360x768, med-high settings at near full-speed.

WoW on OSX at 1680x1050, max settings (minus AA), smooth 30-60 fps.

Call of Duty 4 Demo on Bootcamp running medium settings at 1360x768 smoothly.

Im not a big gamer so i dont know what a good frame rate is,whats a smooth frame rate?

It depends on the Game. FPS or high action games require a higher frame rate to look/feel smooth. I would say 30+ is good for games that came out in the past 2 years. Newer action games that boast high-end graphics may feel better around 60+.

You can only see as many as your screen refresh rate will allow. 60Hz can't display more than 60FPS. Beyond 100 is generally a point of diminishing return.

If you're willing to install windows via bootcamp, I think the OrangeBox:Source is a lot of fun.

CounterStrike: Realistic Counter-ops FPS. Great teamwork involved.

Team Fortress 2: Sequel to the first class-based FPS. Fun gameplay / teamwork

Half-Life 2: Simply awesome game. Fun physics engine.

Portals: Unique game, tons of great reviews.

I dont know how Hellgate looks on a Mac but I would check it out! Also Doom 3, WoW, Half Life Saga, Counterstrike's, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock, Crysis (heard iMac gets decent frames), Supreme Commander, Warcraft 3, Starcraft (look for Starcraft 2 comming hopefuly sometime in 08), Day of Defeat, The Sims, Need For Speed, GTR 2, Age of Empires, F.E.A.R, and alot more that I cant think of at the moment! Alot of these will require that you install bootcamp.
