So I purchased a refurbished iMac a few weeks back and it arrived with a few scratches around the Apple logo. Apple accepted a return and sent me a new unit. Now after transferring all my files and using this new machine for a few days, I have noticed that there are a few imperfections INSIDE the glass (not behind the glass). It looks as though there is a pinprick sized imperfection in one place, and in another place there looks to be a speck of dirt INSIDE the glass. They can only be noticed on a white background.

Is this worth sending the unit back for? Are these imperfections normal? What are the chances that my next unit is once again going to have an issue?

The front glass is just held on by magnets, you will be able to pop it off using suckers or even your fingernails on the top of it and pull it away. To send it back for a spec of dust I think would be a bit much imo.

Did you even read my post? The dirt is inside the glass and not behind it. As in; when the glass was melted down it had a piece of dirt or something in it. The other imperfection is clearly a small pin prick size chip. It reflects light.

If you are going to hit out with the attitude and insults then good luck. If it is really such a big deal for you to cry on a forum about a spec of dust, take it back. Apple products aren't made in some NASA clean room, imperfections happen.

How do you know for sure if you never took off the glass?

Btw, being a little less nasty might improve your odds of being helped.

I had a similar situation on an 09 i7. Turned out it was a scratch. Also glass wasn't seated properly. I brought it back. Qc has gone down the crapper with Apple and Foxconn's China factories. I miss the G3/G4 era when the products were bullet proof and OSX/Mac was Apple's biggest concern

You're lucky they let you return it at all; slight cosmetic blemishes are part of the reason refurbished machines are cheaper. Read the fine print.

Really? I am lucky they let me return a product I paid $2,000 for within a hour of it being delivered to my house? Really? I thought I had a 14 day return policy for any reason.

Also, all the reps I spoke with that day gave me no hassle and obviously didn't agree with you at all. They all stated even the refurbished products are suppose to arrive as new and there is no exception. They even went on to state that is why Apple refurbs are a step above any other company. You may want to read a little more.

It's simple. Has anyone had these issue or not?

Quote from Apple regarding refurbs:

They are in 100% working condition, and are then sold as refurbished product. As these refurbished products have been unpacked and manipulated, they might however exhibit some minor cosmetic imperfection, such as scratches, marks or discolorations.

So as for reading a bit more, you would do well to read Apples own refurbishment process here http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/refurbfaq_popup?mco=MTM3ODAwMTQ before A) Buying a refurb unit and B) Before insulting members of this forum. As for deserving a slap, well I thought it was only on the gamer forums you got internet warriors, obviously not. You will do well to shut your mouth in future before going off on one if you expect to get any help or advice from anyone.

It's a spec of dust... get over it. And gee a huge massive pin prick sized blemish, that's the end of the world!

My refurb came with a tiny scratch on the black bezel and a small ding on the stand, like someone bumped it against the edge of a table, I would not even think about returning it for something that stupid.

Yes my 2009 27 inch iMac purchased new in feb 2010 had one spot like so

( . )

Right in the middle of the screen.

I brought it to my local apple store and they lifted the glass screen and got rid of the dust in about 30 mins.. There were nice enough to let me test it by making a full white background, I said it looks good and have used it since with 0 complaints. BY and large they have been pretty good to me with repairs. I never purchase from them I buy from apple refurb mostly or apple government store online. I am a power buyer of macs More then 50 in the last two years. 90 in the last 5. Only two sent back as rma's and only 2 dragged into the local apple store. over the last 5 years. quality is not as bad as this website says based on my sample of 90 machines.

Another person who can't read. There seems to be quite a few on this forum.

It's not dust.

Do you stare directly at the back of your unit or the stand all day? It's a little different if it's out of sight.

If you're going to carry on with the attitude, I'd suggest you just run along and return your machine that quite clearly states in the T&Cs that it will have some slight blemishes. Hell, why don't you e-mail SJ while you're at it and demand a full refund.

You can't read either ;) Unless you think the black bezel is on the rear of the machine.

For a newbie, you really have one of the worst attitudes on a forum I've seen in a long time. What is your problem?! If you feel that the imperfections are enough for you to moan on a forum about it, take it back. Only YOU will be able to determine if it is a big enough problem to take it back, not us.

Why don't you sell your "faulty" Mac, buy yourself a nice Windows PC and get the &$*# out of here? How old are you? 2? Grow up!!!
