iMac GPU query.

I have been thinking about stepping up from my MBP 13" to a top spec imac but looking at the specs see that the GPU fitted is what I would class as incredibly out of date and can bought for about £75 new. This is really putting me off thinking about buying one and considering the imac was only "updated" not long ago does anyone know Apples logic for fitting such an old GPU? The 5750 is about 6 generations behind the latest. I realise GPU's get released constantly but not that quickly so that this new imac is this far behind. I wanted to use a mac for heavy photo and video and the odd gaming and although the 5750 is sufficient it just bugs me that I know it's a "budget" card.

Any opinions?

Btw, video editing does not really take advantage of the GPU, unless you are talking about compositing.

And how do you come to the conclusion, that a GPU series introduced in January 2010 is already five generations old after nearly eleven months?

I meant that above the 5750 card fitted there is 5770, 5830, 5850, 5870, 5900, 6800. I realise that the term "generation" was wrong as the whole of the 5*** is classed as one generation but it just seemed to be quite a low budget, bottom of the ladder card for the top spec £1600 imac. Thats all I was commenting on.

I mean I have an over 2 year old PC with a nvidia GTX280 fitted that still retails at a higher price than this "new" imac GPU. I mean you can pick one up for as low as £75 or £80. This is all my query is, is that I was a little put off making the purchase for what I thought was a top spec, new imac only to do a bit of research and find that the GPU "appeared" to be behind the curve.

I guess I was looking for people that may know why this card was fitted or any particular reason why a newer card was not or even why you don't get a choice of card to be fitted.

I am no expert as you can read but as a laymen who is considering spending a lot of money on a "latest" release and doing a bit of googling of components you can forgive me questioning or asking why a <£100 GPU is fitted in a £1600 machine.
 
The mobile card was used due to its low TDP, as the iMac has a very thin case and it does use desktop CPUs (i5/7) now, which it didn't before (2009).

A PC tower has more room to properly dissipate the higher heat of a more capable GPU.
