I'm trying to get the HDD layouts for my iMac sorted out now before I put too much junk on the system and get overly complicated.

I've got the 1TB internal drive at the moment, as well as a 1TB G-RAID2 (RAID0) FW800 external drive. This in turn has FW800, FW400 and USB2 connectors on it.

The current setup is a 750/250 partition split on the RAID with 250gb for Time Machine purposes while I set things up. The future plan is to then reformat the RAID to a single 1TB partition with a consumer external 2TB HDD hooked up to it's USB2 port for Time Machine going forward. I'm waiting for G-Technology to come back to me to confirm what devices can be daisy chained off the back of the G-RAID.

I'm likely to use Logic Studio, Final Cut Studio and PhotoShop in a non-professional capacity, and just looking to confirm that the setup in my mind is pretty effecient.

I'm presuming in all 3 of these apps, I should set my scratch disk up as the RAID and store the physical (presumably small) project files on the internal HDD. As it's only a 1TB drive which I'm hoping to install all the DVDs from all the studio packs on (and probably some other things) I won't have a huge amount of space leftover for large work files. I haven't worried about splitting things over multiple drives in OSX before, so I've not had to consider where the bulk of the size will be. Presumably in FCP the DV grabs from my camera will be kept on scratch... is this the same for Logic ? With PhotoShop would I be best using the RAID drive for all work?

On the hardware front, as the iMac only has the single FW port, I'll be running both my audio interface and camera connection through the G-RAID provided it supports daisy chaining. Naturally, I'm unlikely to be running both these devices at once, but when I do the batch grab from my camera I'm not going to experience frame drops due to oversaturation of the FW port am I? (The camera is usually shot in MiniDV ~12gb/hr but I sometimes up this to DVCAM, however I think the output filesize is the same). Also, is Time Machine likely to kick in during this and possibly saturate it further (due to RAID0 use, it makes sense in my mind to include the RAID array in the Time Machine).

Phew! Sorry about the words, but I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who have been through a similar setup, and their experience would be most appreciated.
