So, my iMac's hard drive has died for the 8th time since November, when I bought it. Basically, about every 3rd reboot, it fails, and when I boot to my install disc and run disc utility, verifies and repairs fail, and the hard drive shows up as unmounted. This has happened several times each in leopard and tiger. Does anyone have any experience with this or a way to fix it other than just reformatting and starting over?

All I know is that my friend had an iMac that this kept happening to.....about 2 years ago -- haven't alk to him since then so I dont know if hes still having the issue or not, just that I was always teasing him because he would go through a hard drive every few weeks
