After taking out the 7200 rpm hard drive in the imac i5 i want to use it as an external 1tb hard drive through usb, can anyone show me an enclosure online that i can buy that would enable it to be used with usb for both pc and mac? thank you for any help, and i would really need it to be under 15 dollars or so, i already spent 12 on a wrong one (not really knowing what i was doing). Once again thank you

The iMac uses a SATA drive so you'll need an enclosure that will support that interface. I use the Antec MX100 - it supports SATA drives up to 1GB and it's approx $25. You're going to have a problem with using it for Windows and Mac since they use different formats (windows=NTFS, MAC=HFS/HFS+). The Mac will read an NTFS drive but I don't believe it can write to it.

You'll be hard pressed to find one cheaper being it's for a 3.5" drive it requires an external power supply (included). Although $20 for shipping is outrageous for a 2lb item. My guess is he was trying to ensure he gets some decent money for it in case it only sold for a few bucks.
