Just got my first iMac 2 weeks ago and it has been working excellent until 2 days ago. I logged on and noticed the drive icon which was originally "Macintosh HD" has renamed itself with a string of numbers. I thought maybe one of the kids was typing on the keyboard and this happened accidentally. I renamed the HDD and today it has changed its name to "620 2,6556569630521521".

Does anyone know why this keeps happening?

I also noticed that the machine will not fully boot it I have my USB hub connected to the machine when it is booting of logging on a new user. It will come up to an all blue screen and once I unplug the USB Hub, the user log on screen will appear.

Sounds like the hub is causing problems...or you have a cat.

The hub has been disconnected for over a week now. It was also disconnected before it got renamed the first time and hasn't been connected between the renaming errors. This leads me to believe it is not a hub issue. The locking was a hub issues but I haven't had that happen since I unplugged it.

You are not the first person to accidently rename your Macintosh HD. I've done it a couple of times. Rename it back to Macintosh HD or whatever you want and see of it does it again on its own. Most likely you did it when the icon had focus or as mentioned earlier a pet or child did it.
