imac headphone output

I have linked up my imac to my amp in my room to play through speakers but the left and right are mixed up from the headphone output in my iMac.

Its not the amp as I can change the balance on the amp and that works fine, the problem seems to be from the headphone output its self.

Any suggestions, have I a dud mac?

Does your amp have an optical-in port?

no unfortunately not.

Its a Cambridge Audio A5, ive had it a while now.
