so i'm buying a new iMac tomorrow... i have a white C2D from 2006, and the top of the screen was never ever hot, luke warm at best... i have noticed on the aluminum iMacs that the top get's much hotter - not steaming but quite warm.

is it safe to stick my wii sensor bar to the top of a new aluminum iMac (i use Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to connect my wii to the iMac, if anyone was curious).

If it's getting a little warm, use smcfancontrol to turn your fans up a bit. Or you could make some sort of spacer to put in between. I don't think it would damage your Wii bar, but if it makes you feel more comfortable...

i would say just make a spacer to give a small air gap between the two. Maybe some Blu-Tac would be good for that

What about using the little plastic stand that comes with the wii sensor bar? That should insulate it from the display.

The heat wont be a problem. The Wii sensor bar is really just a pair of IR LEDs. There isn't much in terms of electronics that could be damaged.
If it's anywhere near hot enough to damage the sensor bar, I'd be more worried about your iMac.

ha... good point!

i ended up using the little stand that comes with the sensor bar, because i would need to push the sensor bar back a bit so it doesn't cover the microphone (which is now on top of the aluminum iMacs), and when it's pushed back and i'm sitting down, the front end of the screen will block the IR signals... not sure if what i just wrote makes much sense to anyone...

interestingly, the Wii sensor bar matches the aluminum iMacs better than the Mighty mouse :p

Wow ! Could you please explain how you get the Wii to play through your iMac - i'm intrigued, and could I do the same with a PS3 ?
