Hello Everyone!!!
Yes, I'm a newbie to this forum!!!

I just actually got a brand new iMac last night, and for those who don't know...I'm brand new to the Macintosh family. I used to be a PC user...but I needed a Mac for art school. Anyway, I'm having some trouble trying to install AIM (AOL Instant Messanger) The download box keeps saying something about a .bin file?? I've never seen it before!!! Anyway, can anyway tell me a way to install AIM?? I dont like using iChat...!!! HELP would be greatly appreicated!!! Thanks!!!

You'll find that AOL's products aren't very compatible with Macs, so I recommend against it.

Incase you are not aware, iChat will work with your current AIM address, but if you still don't want to use iChat, there are some other alternatives that many find better than AIM.

Adium is one of my favorites.

Why don't you want to use iChat? I love iChat. In my experience, it is much better than AIM and it works with your AIM screen name.

You can use iChat for text, video, and audio chating.

Yes, it will be able to get your AIM buddy list.

No, iChat can also do text chatting as well. And iChat should be able to find your buddy list fine. I suggest you try it before you try a different program since it's build in.

By the way, I'm not trying to be a jerk but for future reference, this thread should be in the software section, not hardware.

You can use your existing aim screen name and password to sign in through iChat.

iChat does regular text chat. It also does audio and video if the person on the other end has a camera or a microphone - and only if you want to chat that way.

Just load the program and when creating your account, choose AIM Account for Account Type. Then, enter your existing username and password.

All your contacts will show up. Viola.

Welcome to Mac.
