I see that in System Preferences > Network I can set the order that my iMac will use to connect to the Internet e.g. Ethernet then WiFi.

My question is, if I have my Ethernet connection as the 'primary' and my iPhone hotspot as WiFi (secondary), will the connection switch almost seamlessly to WiFi if my Ethernet connection is lost and back again when it restores ... or doesn't it work that way.

TIA

If the connection is lost via ethernet, it -should- switch to wifi.

BUT... the ethernet connection will almost certainly be "as stable as" or "more stable than" the wifi connection.

Unless you stumble over the connecting cable, of course...😍

Thanks, my broadband has been having issues recently and dropping out, hence I was planning to use my iPhone data as the backup when Zoom conferencing but if it doesn't switch without dropping the Zoom connection it isn't going to help as a backup.

Update:

Just in case anyone else has the question ... the Zoom connection was interrupted by around 2/3 secs but the connection was not dropped so it is a workable temporary solution.
