iMac - how do you find the internal speakers

I have a good logitech 2 speaker and sub set up with the PC I am about to happily put on ebay when my iMac 24"arrives next week.

But one of the reasons for buying a Mac, is no cables.

• So how are the onboard speakers?
• Are they ok?
• Would you stick with them comfortably, or use your existing external system?

Also - if you used Skype to chat with friends interstate or overseas, would yuo now use Skype on the Mac, or use the chat program that comes with the iMac?

The onboard speakers are amazing for the default speakers, i can easily stick with them and they loud.

i use Skype and my friend has some really expensive logitech webcam, mic & speakers and he says my iMac's mic and speakers are so much better

The onboard speakers are good. Don't have much bass, but are clear and crisp, and yes, they are a cable-free and space-free alternative. However, if music is your thing, or watching movies, then the on-boards may not fulfill you.

I concur...Im looking for additional speakers because I watch movies, and have kids, and the internal speakers just dont provide enough sound to hear the movie over the kids.

100% agree.

they are very good speakers, but have no bass at all.

Its a shame, make such a lovely computer, and the speakers could have been done very well and very cheap by someone like bose etc

Oh well, sounds ok though, will try them out first and keep my speakers

My view is the speakers are fine for casual listening but I think you'll want external speakers if you use the computer for lots of movies or for listening to music beyond background music. I agree they don't have much bass and they really don't have much stereo separation. As built in computer speakers I'd say they are very good. But that doesn't mean they're good for critical listening applications.

Bose? Cheap? Not in the same sentence!

It would be difficult for iMac speakers to be full sounding and have a lot of bass when encased in the same area as the CPU/Motherboard. All that rattling may not be good for the system and hence why they chose to up the sound quality and lose the bass.

I heard the internal speakers once. after that I hooked up my soundsticks because I like music and movies, lol. I use headphones with skype and use the iMic, the pic threw me because I have the older model

Well I dont watch movies on the iMac, well, I wont when I get it this week
I bought Apple tV so I can use that for movies and music

The wife will watch clips of the baby on the imac so I am sure it will suffice for that

I don't play games much anymore, though I might have a go and assume it will be ok for that

I am going to use skype, or the Mac chat video for video conferencing with family, so assume the speakers will be fine for that too

I just dont want clutter, and if the speakers work fine, then happy days
