I am about to buy a computer and just been doing some research. When I went to best buy and ran a geekbench score on the imac it was like around 5800.

A seller on ebay who is selling a Mac Pro 3.0 ghz just ran the score and posted the results of 6214

http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/285143

Based off of this score alone wouldn't it mean that the 2007 Mac Pro is faster than the newer 2010 imac?

Please help me out someone as I am about to make a purchase

thanks

Mac Pro may be faster in multithreaded performance as it has more cores but in single-threaded performance, the iMac is better due newer micro-architecture. However, I wouldn't do the decision based on CPU speed. If you need better graphics than iMac offers, PCIe slots and HD bays, then the Mac Pro is for you. Remember that you need a monitor for it so it will increase the prize.

If you need the expandability that Mac Pro offers, then go for it. Otherwise, the iMac might be a better buy

Thanks for the reply. I already have a nice monitor , 24". My only concern was this is a 2007 computer ( Mac Pro ) vs a new 2010 one. My main use as of now is Final Cut Pro.

The Mac Pro in a way would be nice because I could store a of my drives internally and have amazing speed. I thought the iMac i3 3.06ghz would be a faster computer, it's not?

Thanks

What Mac Pro is it? 2007 refers to 3GHz 8-core so it's hard to say as you didn't specify it. iMac is still faster in most apps as they are single-threaded but that's the only thing. GPU can be upgraded to ATi 5870 which will run circles around any iMac's GPU and HD bays are very nice.

I would go for Mac Pro if they cost the same

Apologies for lack of info, it is a quad core Mac Pro 2007 version. They seel for about $1500+ and the New iMac is like $1200.
