I am helping to fix the iMac for my neighbor: black screen, sound of HDD spinning upon startup, nothing responsive

It's a very old iMac (from 2006 I guess), and now with the black screen he surrenders and only wants to take the CD-ROM out of the CD reader because that's important.

I surrender as well, searching through all kinds of "iMac 2006 black screen" and none the following work
- Resetting NVRAM or SMC https://iosafe.com/helpdesk/kb/faq.php?id=14
- Unplug and replug the 2 RAMs
- Letting the fan working like crazy by pressing the power button together with plugging in the power cord.
- Connecting to another screen (using the mini-DVI-to-HDMI cable)

Now, I only want to take the CD-ROM out, any idea ?

If the machine does power on, you could try one or two old tricks to eject the cd. Power it on, hold the eject key on the keyboard. Alternately, click and hold the mouse until it ejects.
If neither of those work, you’ll have to open it up and remove the drive. Not an easy task, but doable.

Somehow he only has the Windows keyboard, then where is the EJECT KEY ?
And alternatively: do you mean clicking and hold the LEFT mouse ?

I can borrow an Apple keyboard, but are you sure that by clicking on the EJECT button can I eject the CD-ROM out ?

Is there a more certain way ?

Yes, click and HOLD the left (or main) button. Windows mouse shouldn't matter. Or find an apple keyboard and use the eject button (hold that key down).

Unfortunately, clicking the left (Windows) mouse does not work. The problem is: iOS is not fully started, screen still black and I don't know what the status of the OS is.
