So for the past couple months, I've been saving up for my very own iMac. Working long hours (14 hours xmas eve
) and saving every penny. I got a $400 check from my parents for xmas to go towards it too, and I'm finally getting close, I have about $1,600 saved, and am going for the 24" 2.8 ghz (or the upgraded equiv... or the 3.06 refurb with cheeper price after new ones come out) But this isnt really about the exact model.
I'm a photojournalism major at PSU and have started to become very serious about my photography, and a 15" laptop screen will not cut it for editing anymore. Even with my 19" display, my powerbook g4 1.67 lacks the kick I need to really edit photos.
Living in a dorm I don't want a full desktop, so that rules out my usual solution of building my own machine. I looked through the all in one market, and dells offering looked underpowered and bulky, HP's touchsmart will be an amazing pc down the road, but right now its a shiny pentium III. And then there's the iMac, sleek, fast, and with a huge screen.
So now here I am, almost ready to buy with my whole schedule cleared on the 5-9 of January waiting for an announcement before I drive to Delaware to avoid tax... But it got me thinking,
How will an iMac work in dorm life? Right now I am in a simple double, but next year I will probably end up in a room with 6 people (save my parents some money) My worries are:
1)Will I look like a complete douche with an 24" iMac? Everyone else has little laptops, and maybe an older desktop, and there I will be with this huge thing, I don't want to look like a rich douche
2)Will it get stolen? I know there is a security loop in the back, and my desk is mounted to the ground, so it will be pretty securely locked, but with a gem like that should I still be worried?
3)Will it break? In a dorm with 5 other people, theres always a chance that a stray football or bag of food will slap it in the face, should I be overly worried?
4)Why the heck can't I already have this thing, I've been waiting for months!
