well I finally got a new Mac, the 20" model. It is just fantastic. My apt even looks better now.

And, as I believe I have mentioned elsewhere, I am super proud (particularly as a forever Apple user...) of having skipped the whole G5 crap, sticking with my noisy, yet performing dual 1.25 for so long (and it still flys). I did buy an iMac G5 before, but that was for my mother !

Anyhow thanks to many of you whome I have "consulted" - having not been in the market for a few years - on a couple of issues.

One issue was memory. I purchased the iMac at the new NY apple store, I sent my wife to get it since it was quite simple, I told her: get the iMac 20" with 2gb of memory (for $300 I thought it was ok, just to get it done) and leave :). I added, not to get the additional ram if it was going to take more than 10minutes.

Oh well, I am not sure what on earth happened but the sales person at the store basically convinced my wife not to get the memory there (can you believe this) saying that it was going to be a lot more than $300.

Unfortunately I was not there so I am not sure what the story is, the bottom line however I know: I ordered 2gb at zipzoomfly (I sort of like that place, even though their service sux, except for shipping, which is fast!) for $186 (including shipping) hence saved $114 and apparently a lot more according to the Apple store dude.

Anyway what a change dudes from my PM g4.

Now when are we going to see some pro apps ? I guess when the new PM will be announced ...

I ran into that issue too. Basically if you order off the web its $300, but if you go into the store and its not already in the machine, they charge you $600 for the memory and another $50??? for the install fee.

Its easy enough to go buy some from OWC or another source and install it yourself. It takes about 10 minutes of your time (and thats being careful).

g5 crap???

ok ok, did not really mean it, but it did turn out to be ... a stop gap move to the a much more significant performance paradigm.

Thanks Mike !
yes yes , that is the sort of thing my wife was telling me, but it so much made no sense that I thought she just misunderstood. Wow ! fascinating !!

I had told her to just go get it since I had seen the $300 price online !!! could never imagine at the store it would be twice as much and more. I am amazed. Anyhow, now that I have an Apple store 10 min walking distance from my apt, problem was easily solved :)
