Computer Troubles:
I have been having internet / wifi issues for a month or 2 now.
I mainly work from my 2011 Imac on my desk which has direct ethernet connection, not using wifi.
Noticed internet on Imac & wifi in house keeps going out.
I installed app on my Imac to monitor / log the internet connection & it shows the connection goes off and on constantly through the day.
There are a lot of devices in the home ie 2 Imacs, 3 macbooks, 3 ipads, 3 iphones, wifi printer, fire tv & apple tv boxes & they are all having trouble.
I was running an apple airport extreme wifi with airport express add-ons & I thought that may be the problem as it was few years old so I replaced the entire wifi system with a Linksys Velop mesh system with 4 units throughout the house. That did not fix the problem.
I called my internet provider & after not being able to troubleshoot over the phone they sent a tech to the house & he showed me even when the monitoring app says internet connection lost the cable modem always shows online so it is not their issue. He also had me plug Imac direct to cable modem with no router & that worked great.
I also have a gigabit switch & cable service tech suggested maybe replacing that. I did & still no good.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when or how long internet disconnects.
My company IT guy has been troubleshooting this issue & we haven’t really gotten anywhere. He mentioned could be a bad card in the Imac or any of my many other devices putting out bad signal & disrupting the network. He had me shut everything down & just try imac & I still had the issue.
Things I thought I would still try:
My sister lives just down the street & I thought if I bring my Imac there & startup & internet is still an issue then Imac is definitely the problem?
Or, move my Macbook to where the Imac on my desk is & make all connections through that & disconnect Imac fully, if that works that could also show the Imac to be the issue.
I know I provided a lot of info here.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
