I have an iMac, about 4 months old. Running OS X 10.6.2 . I connect through the internet through a cable modem, not wirelessly. This morning, I couldn't get a webpage to load so I rebooted the computer. started working but after about 3 clicks in to pages, it quit. Mail worked for that time and now it won't connect as well. If I unplug the internet cable, it works again for about the same amount of time ( 3 minutes, 3 clicks on pages). I'm on the internet now through a PC off the same router so that can't be the issue. Any suggestions?

So you have a modem (that connects to the telephone line), a router that connects to the modem and has its own wireless LAN to which you connect your Mac and PC?

Is that right?

Have you checked the settings on the router and the iMac and maybe seen any conflict?

my setup

I have a cable modem, not telephone. has a router that connects to 2 other computers in the room. one, my old pc (because I have so much old info I have to access from time to time) and the other to my iMac. once again, I have unplugged the cable and rebooted the computer, which makes it work for the short period of time I described before. thanks for you help

Hi doug1965.

As a suggestion, surf the Configuration page of your internet modem. Find their recommended workstation settings and configure each of your workstations (PC and Mac) with their "recommended" settings. If wondering.... Years ago, I got my Internet modem installed. At that time, they were using DHCP. A few months back, my workstation started dropping its internet connection as well. I checked my internet modem's configuration page and was surprised. They are now using Static IPs and "fixed" speed/duplex settings on the workstation's NIC card. I changed to their "recommended" workstation settings and my internet connection (and its LAN ethernet side) has been solid as a rock.

Also... Do investigate your internet modem hardware as well. Some modems have firmware updates (since that modem model was originally released). Some firmware updates "eliminate" dropped internet connection problems.

Also... do google search on your internet modem H/W as well. For example "Mac 2Wire problems". (Assuming your internet modem is a 2wire brand). For `Mac 2Wire problem` search, one gets results of: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=mac+2wire+problems&meta=&aq=f&oq= You might find lots of great resolution ideas with this google search tool as well.

Hope these ideas help....
