Hello all,

My 2 Ghz Intel iMac with 2 GB of RAM, running Snow Leopard, has been acting goofy for quite some time now.

Its symptoms are it takes whole minutes to wake up from sleep or if I've been not using it for a while and the screen saver is running. If I wake it up or the screen saver has been on, it will beach ball for almost a minute before the computer is usable.

Also, it freezes while I'm using it quite often, needing a hard restart about once a day.

I've run disk repair and it helped a little, but didn't totally correct the problem.

I would like to do a clean install of Snow Leopard.

I have my data backed up using Time Machine and would like to reinstall my stuff from it.

My question is if I do this, will I be reinstalling the problem from my Time Machine backups?

Thanks in advance.

That's assuming the problems you are experiencing are software-based and not hardware. You might create another user account and the next time you're experiencing the problems log out of your own into that one to see if the symptoms persist.

Did Disk Utility report any errors on the hard disk? Did it say they were repaired? Did you run it again to see if they appear again?

Those are all valid questions. Yes it did say they were repaired, but I'm gonna run it again to see if they appear again.

Try doing a clean install of 10.6. Sounds like some of your system files are corrupted (it would be almost impossible that an application would be slowing the wake up and causing other problems). If that doesn't help, your HD may be going bad

That was my guess too.

If I clean install and then reinstall my data from Time Machine, will that re-install my problem?

I can't say definitively, but from my experience, you should do a clean install and manually restore your music, pictures, etc.

My new iMac never acted right when I restored from the TM backup. I also noticed the grinding noise when I restored from a backup, and didn't hear it when I did a clean install.

I'm also manually redownloading all apps. Just my experiences with a couple new 27's.
