iMac Keeps Randomly Crashing - I Get The Message: Press and Hold Power Button..etc.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out why my iMac all of a sudden is starting to freeze up and displays a message on the screen that tells me in like 5 languages to hold the power button and reboot the computer.

This has happened 3 times this week.

The 1st and 2nd time that it happened, I had plugged in my USB Flash Drive, and as soon as I did, I got the Mac screen of death is what I'm going to call it

The 3rd time that it happened, I was playing L4D2 (Mac version) while inside one of the solo campagins. I noticed L4D2 appeared to be having a slow FPS (I didn't see the FPS value) but the game was hardly playable, but I can play it just fine via Boot Camp.

Lastly, when I rebooted my computer, I got a popup that informed me of a Problem Report for Mac OSX, and it had a lot of stuff under "Problem Details and System Configuration". Here is what it gave, if it helps any:

If this is a new iMac, call Apple. If it is an old iMac, what has changed since it started having problems? Did your flash drive work until now? Any new hardware? Did you run Disk Utility? Do you have a backup you can restore from?

This is the late 2009 27" iMac edition. I haven't added or changed anything that I know of. My plans are to call Apple Care if no one here can see from the System Configuration details provided what the issue is. The flash drive worked fine before this week, so I have no idea what is causing this.

This problem has happened in the pass, but it was a rare occasion, but this week it's happening way to often.

Oh really , okay, I wish I had a spare keyboard up here at school with me so I could just disconnect this one completely to see how it does.

Guess I'll have to pay a trip to Best Buy tomorrow, as it seems to be up to date I guess, but then again, I don't see where in the System Preferences there is a button to check to see if any updates are available, and the Software Update isn't showing any new updates available either.

Will do. I just found out how to check for updates within the Configuration mode, and it does say there are no updates at this time, but I'll still download the update file from Logitech and give it a shot.

I still think either way I'm going to go buy the Apple keyboard with the numpad from BB as I miss the numpad badly! And to also have a spare keyboard around

Well, I applied the update, and restarted my iMac, and then started playing L4D2 for about an hour just fine, then out of no where when I was about to charge someone in the game, I got the Mac screen of death (press and hold the power button to restart computer...)

So I'm thinking it's a combination of Steam maybe, and the Logitech, as I've owned this Logitech keyboard for almost 4 or 5 months now, and my iMac has never crashed this much (4 times in one week) as you can see from the new report:

The application Steam has crashed from time to time when trying to download the game (installing cache..or preparing to download I should say), or apply updates to the Steam application, but I didn't really pay it much attention since the Mac version of Steam didn't have many games I cared to play.
