Ok so I turned on my iMac (the 21.5 inch from late 2009) and when I got to the login screen, I tried typing in my password but no text showed up. And when I tried to click "Log in" the button wouldn't do anything! It just doesn't allow you to click any buttons or type any text. Its not a keyboard or mouse problem, so what is it??

I've had this too, I just press power button until iMac powers off, then power it back on again.

I think it may be a USB port not being recognised problem, at start up.
