So.. in a nutshell, I returned home to find my iMac unresponsive. It wouldn't wake up at all, so I was forced to reboot it by holding the Power button down. Upon restarting, I'm greeted with its very first kernel panic. (It's over two years old now.) Here's its specs, and what I've tried thus far.
(according to AHT)
Model: iMac8,1
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.80 GHz)
SMC: 1.30F1
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512)
Ram: 4gb 2x2gb 800 MHz
OS: 10.6.4 / WinXP (bootcamp)
-It wont boot normally, it panics about 20-30 secs after the Apple logo.
-It wont boot in safe mode, I see the loading bar beneath the Apple logo, after it completes, it panics shortly after.
-It wont boot from optical drive or usb drive, it starts to load a bit (spinning wheel) then eventually panics.
-Booting normally with verbose on, I see this as the last two lines..
"Warning - kext com.silex.driver.sxuptp has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel* and com.apple.kpi.* componentsl use only one style."
"DSMOS has arrived." --then it hangs there indefinitely.
-Booting into AHT, I ran a looped check overnight and it found nothing.
-If I try to boot into the XP partition, there are blue horizontal lines (a slight pixelated wave pattern) on the XP startup screen then a BSOD incurs.
-I can boot into Single User Mode, where running fsck -fy returns a couple of "Invalid volume file count, repairing volume" errors. Running it again afterwards shows the volume being OK.
-I'm seemingly able to browse the HDD in SU mode.
Looking at the first panic log, (not sure how to copy the log since I can't use the mac in question, but..) it's mentioning..
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies)
com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.1.8) dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.1.8)
com.apple.NVDAResman(6.1.8) dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6), com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.1), com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.1)
Google has given me so many solutions, problems, and fixes. None of them have deemed useful, so here I am.
I'm hoping it may just be a video card issue and it merely needs replaced. (Actually, I'm hoping its some software issue, but.. thats only hoping.)
Any help? -TIA
