Hello.
I upgraded my late 2009 iMac 21' hard drive. I used a Crucial MX500 for the SSD and an Icy Dock SAS / SATA SSD / HDD converter for the enclosure.
Of course I was not able to replug the thermal sensor.
I reinstalled MacOs High Sierra from internet recovery and everything went well.
I adressed the fan spinning at maximum problem by installing SSD Fan Control ( https://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/ ) which worked out very well.
But I still have a problem left : the CPU load is always around 75% because of kernel_task process, which is like the system itself !
Things I have tried and did nothing :
- reset PRAM
-reset SMC
- Look for SMC update (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201518#imac) but none is avaialble for my machine.
I have read that a a failed or disconnected temperature sensor can cause kernel_task to go haywire but couldn't find any proper fix for it in my particular case. What solution do I have ?
Thanks !
