Hey
I have an old 27" Late 2012 iMac that has served me well over the years, it came with an i5-3470S CPU (2.9GHz 4C, no HT), it has 32GB RAM as well.
I thought I might give it new life by upgrading the CPU in the machine to an i7-3770 (apple installs this exact same CPU if I chose i7 at checkout).
The installation was successful and the computer booted right away! In the process I replaced the thermal paste which was extremely dry on the CPU and GPU VRMs, I used Arctic MX4 thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, which is considered a good thermal paste.
I ran Cinebench and while the score increased from around 950 points to 1450 points (which is typical for this CPU), the CPU easily reached 102-103C during the benchmark. There was no thermal throttling and the CPU kept its frequency at 3.7GHz the whole time during the benchmark even when it reached 103C.
Also, if I watch a 4k video, the CPU would easily reach 85-92C.
Are these temperatures normal for the i7 model, or did I miss up the thermal paste application and need to re-do it?
