Hi,
Currently i own an imac 27" i5 3.2GHz, 24GB and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB. I'm fairly happy with it, especially the screen.
Im not a heavy gamer but i like to play Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 a lot. I run them in native 2560 x 1440 resolution on low graphics. But the framerate is getting a tad low due all the updates from Blizzard, also just 1GB of GPU memmory isnt much. I dislike to play on a lower resolution due the fuzzier look. Buying a 5k iMac will put me in the same situation, running games on 5k resolution will require a GPU monster and the iMac will be very pricey.
First i was thinking of a Hackintosh system, but, i cant find a screen that is more less identical to the iMac (glossy etc) and all the hassle with patches, etc. so i decided to drop this idea.
My solution was to go for a second hand late 2013 model with an Intel Core i5 3.4GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX780M 4GB GDDR. This upgrade will cost me ~200 euro's after selling my current mac.
According to Notebookcheck the 780M is more less twice as fast as the 675MX. Not sure how reliable this is. http://www.notebookcheck.net/In-Review-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-780M-GTX-770M-GTX-765M.93277.0.html
Would this be worth it? or is it still better to buy the entry level 5k iMac (m390) and play on (2560x1440) and is the fuzzie screen not a big deal at all on the 5K resolution iMacs?
