I am trying to squeeze a bit more life from my late-2015 27" iMac (i7 processor, Monterey booting from original internal 512 GB SSD) with Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP version 2.2.0). I am installing onto external drives, partly because I want to keep a working Monterey setup until I know everything is working correctly, partly because I want to use a 1 TB drive as the 512 GB is getting a bit short of space.

So far, I have installed:
- Ventura onto a 1 TB NVME drive (Samsung 980 PRO) connected via Thunderbolt (TB2-TB3 adapter <-> OWC TB hub <-> Acasis NVME)
- Sonoma onto a 1 TB SSD (Samsung T7) via USB

In both cases the ‘basic’ OSes are working OK (I am in the Sonoma machine at the moment).

However, I have an of issue when I use Migration Assistant to copy my setup to the new installations. On the Ventura install I have migrated from a TimeMachine backup and from the 512 GB internal SSD. On the Sonoma install I have migrated from the internal SSD. For all of these options, the migration appears to complete without errors but when the system reboots the progress bar only gets to ~50%: on the Ventura install the machine then just sits (apparently) doing nothing; on the Sonoma install it restarts then loops ad infinitum. Forcing a shut down (with power button) then restarting produces the same effect, progress gets to ~50% then sits (Ventura) or loops (Sonoma).

One final piece of information (that may be completely irrelevant): my iMac is the model that cannnot update to the latest EFI firmware and is stuck on 170.0.0.0.0 (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...te-2015-efi-firmware-update-failures.2228324/).

I appreciate that my problem may be unrelated to OCLP, but if anyone has any insight I'd be happy to hear it.

Thanks in advance.
