We just inherited my father-in-law's iMac... sent to our home, unpacked, set up... It's been booting up for about 20 minutes. Clearly something is wrong. Any suggestions. The unit is only a couple of years old, better than superbly maintained and updated. The man was a Mac afficionado... please help. Thanks.

Hmm that doesn't seem to long to me. I have never counted it but I wouldn't say my iMac or ibook boot especially fast starting up and when I had leopard on my iMac it was longer. However after the start up loading is done its nippy enough. Is it laggy in general or just when booting?

Things that might slow down a computer though; hard drive very full like only a couple of hundred megabytes left, a lot of stuff set to 'open at login' I have found really slows down boot-up, so could be that perhaps?
