Kansas. No, not on a farm.
Hello, all.

Recently, I've been thinking of buying a new Mac and I cannot decide which one to purchase. I already own a 12" iBook G4 1.33GHz which works beautifully but I can't resist those shiny, new Intel ones. I'm going to be using this new computer mainly for work- school papers, photoshop work, web-browsing, the usual "student" computer. Hard drive space is not a problem, I own a 320GB external FireWire/USB hard drive that I use with my iBook at the moment, since all it's got is a 40GB hard drive but I can swap with the newer computer I plan to buy with ease. Processor speed is important to me as Photoshop tends to suck up a lot of processor on my iBook at times, and I always have 6+ applications running at one time, so processor speed is important to me. On the iMacs- the 17" vs 20" screen size isn't really a big difference for me since I've been using a 12.1" screen this whole time.

Right now I am leaning toward an iMac 17", but any other opinions are welcome.

So this is my dilemma- any help would be appreciated.

Oh and by the way- I plan to purchase this computer after the release of Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, but I need to begin saving money ASAP.

Thanks in advance :)

If you're buying this AFTER the release of Leopard, this thread is almost pointless. There are sure to be updates to all 3 machines you are talking about before the official release of Leopard in Spring 2007. I'd wait, and then wait some more until you see how Apple updates these machines...Spring '07 is a long ways away...

That's a tough one, because Leopard is a good half year away.

Here's what I'd do: save up for the most expensive possibility, see what's out there in real life at purchasing time, and recklessly spend the difference on yummy snacks.
