i have the 24" alu mid-2007 iMac and it has been working like a charm since. but recently ive noticed that it had been making small popping noises but i dont think its from my speakers as it happens when no music is playing and its nothing super loud and it happens every once in a while. this also happens with my ps3 and ive heard from people that its just the casing and its nothing to really worry about but i dont know. could it just be the casing or something more serious? like i said it happens maybe once every 2 days and sometimes less.

that use to happen with my old 17" iMac 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo (2006)... i never did find out what was causing it... but i know what you mean, it's not really bothersome, but you'd still like to know what it is...

haven't had it happen yet with my new iMac...

mine (new 24"er) makes small popping noises too. i have external speakers connected. not sure why it does that. it's small/quiet enough not to really be bothersome, but its definitely noticeable..
also noticed if i move the speakers cable at the back a little there is a lot of staticy sound... i guess the connection isn't too solid

my machine is running fine but im just really paranoid when it comes to noises like that. i guess it could be the guts of the imac just doing its thing. i have applecare so im not too worried about it. i heard it was because of the heat causing parts to expand and such but who knows. im enjoying the hell out of my imac

hmm to my ear it just sounds more like electrical noise through the speakers (possibly caused my a cheap or slightly faulty soundcard or maybe even bad drivers). doesn't sound like anything inside the machine b/c I don't hear it when my speakers are turned off.
either way, my machine runs fine, and i can live w/ the little popping noises as long as they stay little and don't get loud. i've seen other posts describing "loud hissing and pops", but I don't get those.
