iMac/MBP + miniDisplayPort to DVI + Samsung Screen

I bought a new Samsung screen yesterday (P2470HD 22") to replace an older Samsung T200HD which had died a few days ago after several years of use, especially 10 months of use on my iMac.

The new screen would not talk to the iMac 27" or the MBP over the miniDisplayPort to DVI connector and DVI cable. The displayport adaptor is Apple's own.

I have tried the following:

- Tried a completely different adaptor into the Samsung - doesn't work.
- Plugging MacBook Pro into the Samsung - doesn't work.

- Plugging same cable into another screen with a DVI port - works.
- Pugging an old macbook laptop with DVI out into the Samsung - works.

The issue isn't the connector or the cable. The Samsung screen does respond to DVI input as shown by the older laptop.

1. Can anyone tell me why the iMac or MBP with display port will not detect the screen?

2. Can anyone recommend a ~20-22" screen with 1080p or greater resolution, with DVI in, that will work with a modern mac with displayport-DVI out.

Im guessing you have already tried this but have you selected DVI on the TV as the input? My old LG TV couldnt be detected untill I changed the input to VGA with the remote.

Yep, was on the DVI input.

iMac wasn't detecting anything even when forcing a display detect.

Screen just sat there saying there was no signal.

dont mirror display or try to mirror ,change the resolution , and make it as small as possible so start with the lowest resolution , some modern tv's wont recognise anything with another resolution then exact their native one or some lower ones

and make sure its single ore dual dvi cable used , there is a huge difference between dvi-d and dvi-i and the others , a often overlooked thing not every cable works on every tv or monitor as dvi is not just dvi

for example if your tv is setup for a DVI-D dual link and you use a DVI-D single link it might not recognise a connection same the other way round , been there before it is a nightmare had to buy 5 different cables as not even the same cable is the same even if the connectors are the same , i did want a white cable , but had to settle with a black one , the connectors had been exact the same ,
ad then it comes to what your iMac has on the output and what the tv expects on its input as a signal ,frequencies clock rates and so on , its getting every year more complicated , and not all tv's accept the same inputs , yes they all have a dvi socket , but that doesn't mean anything any more

there are a number of different connectors all called DVI and different standards for in and output and different cable qualities read wiki :

or just use hdmi that works most times
