iMac, Messed up Enclosure..

I finally figured out what the buzzing coming from my computer is.. The case I think is messed up.. I get a vibrating buzzing sound, the type that comes from high voltage wires, but when i squeeze the bototm of the computer, the noise stops. I took the back off, and put it back on. This helped a little bit. Now i can stand to at least sit by my commputer without tearing my hair out. When i squeeze the bottom, i can feel that in the bottom middle, it is not flush to the front of the computer. Every other day i take a scredriver and tighten up the screws, and this helps a little bit, but the noise keeps coming back, just now its a little faint.

I have applecare, (20inch g5 2.0ghz) Will apple cover this? I never take my computer anywhere, and it never gets touched, so why could this have happened? The last time I took it somehwere was to get a hd replaced because the hd died, could they have done it? This was a couple weeks ago.

I would take it in to have it looked at. The damage could have been done when the dh was replaced if the didn't get the back cover back on properly. I believe that it has to go on a particular way (top first? botton first? I don't recall) for everything to match up.

I want to, but as i told the phone rep, before i knew the problem, theres not a chance in hell your ever gonna hear the noise in a store, because now that i replaced the cover, it only happens sometimes, and is faint.. it was really loud.. I have applecare so ill give that a try and see if someone can come to my house..

You know, a lot of people on these forums demand that any problem with a Mac should make you take the computer into a store and "have it looked at". I know that this is never as easy as it sounds and that a more simple answer sometimes might be appreciated. I hope to provide that.

Way back I had a beige G3 that had a very rattling CD-ROM, so my solution? I stuck some styrofoam inbetween the case and drive, and voila, no more rattle.

So I would say if you can solve the problem by squeezing the case, then perhaps you can stick something in the case to solve the problem, or something else that is relevant to the problem. I don't think that Apple intended there to be a significant amount of vibrations coming from the case, but it might save you some trouble to just jerry-rig the thing and get on with your life. No?

Ha! That's funny! My beige G3's CD drive sounds like a blender! Of course, it's been at least a year since I've used it.
