Hello to all!

For a year and a half now, I've been having a problem with my iMac.
The headphone jack doesn't work. I plug in the headphones (ones that I know that work) and the sound keeps coming from the internal speakers.
The only device for audio output in the System Preferences is the internal speakers.
Did the PRAM thing, didn't work. I have also tried re-installing the OS (as part of a HDD replacement process), didn't have different results.
Now, I'm not really interested in finding out what's wrong with my iMac (since the problem occurred after the warranty had expired, and since the prices for repair in Greece are pretty cha-ching!, and everything else seems to be working fine).
But, I was wondering whether I could connect USB speakers to my iMac and have them work properly.
I mean, if there was a problem with the sound card I probably wouldn't be getting any audio at all, so it must be just the jack, and since the speakers will be using the USB port instead, they should work fine?

Thanks for replying if any of this makes ANY sense to you!
