Hi all,
I get from a friend a mid-2010 27" iMac. When turning it on it show screen problems (green/red vertical line). My friend take it to a repair shop and they say GPU problem. Thus my friend decide to bough a new one for working and give it to me to use as Target Display. He take out the ssd from the iMac because it contains job data, thus the iMac is now without a disk.
Which is the best way to make it working? I though to install macOS on an external drive and boot it up, than use keyboard combination, but now I had the doubt because I do not know how to install the OS without use the screen. Can you help me?

This is the screen when I turn on the Mac. It correctly make the boot up sound. It is a gpu problem?
