My iMac configuration
CPU Intel core i7 2600
GPU NVIDIA Quadro K4100M
Memory 32GB
macOS Big Sur 11.2.1

I would like to replace the CPU with an Intel core i7 3770K. Is it possible?
Will the iMac work?

I had the same thought, and although I have no idea if it would work, I've found a comparison that makes me wonder if it's really worth it. In the event of a CPU failure, 2600 is still half the price of 3770k on eBay.

Thank you very much.
Looking at the table, there is almost no difference in performance.
Maybe you don't know more by feeling.

As you can see, if the performance is even a little better, I'm happy with it.

I want to know if it works.

Thank you very much.
I followed the link I was given, but I couldn't find a clear answer.
I don't know at all because the power is different from the fastest CPU of iMac Mid2011' 27inch, 21.5 inch.

And rewriting the BIOS etc. and rewriting the M / B firmware is beyond my skill.
The candidates now are core i7 --2700K, core i7 --3770, and not'K'.
I'm also interested in Xeon, but it's a pass because there is a sleep problem.

Has anyone succeeded in replacing the CPU on the same iMac as me? ..
Or is the current CPU core i7-2600 the best? ..

Even with the PC mainboard, BIOS must be flashed with a new one to accomodate core intel gen 3rd CPUs.
And those BIOSes were provided by the mainboard makers.
No such BIOS has been provided by Apple. (EFI ROM/SMC update etc. for iMac logicboard)
You want to modify it yourself? Or just plug-in to see if it works?

For the time being, I will try it with CPU replacement as it is.
I think it's necessary to change the EFI ROM (especially core i7-3770),
I don't know if it exists, and even if it does exist, I don't know how to rewrite EFI ROM with my current skills.
I read through the URLs that gave me advice, but I answered myself if I didn't know until I actually tried it.
I will try to get more information about EFI.

I'd like to have clear information that it doesn't work on core i7-3770.
Since there was a successful example of corei7 -2700K, there is a high possibility that it will be corei7 -2700K.

By default, core i7-3770 or any core i gen 3 are not supported with iMac 2011.
The intel chipset on the logic board may support as they worked on PC motherboards, but EFI ROM must be modified.

thank you so much.
It means that if you rewrite the EFI ROM, it will work.
Is EFI rewriting physical? Or is there something like setting up a BIOS like Windows? ..

It's physical. In the thread I quoted above, people have had to desolder it from the logic board, solder it to a ROM chip reader/writer to read the contents, and after modifying the contents, desolder/solder it back to the logic board to test.

Thank you for your polite answer.
It seems that it is physically impossible to rewrite the ROM with my current skills.
I have skills such as soldering, but I'm not confident.
This time I will give up on core i7 -3770.
Thank you very much for your kindness.

Me gustaría reemplazar la CPU por un Intel Core i7 3770K. ¿Es posible?
¿Funcionará el iMac?
Hello.

My mid-2011 27" iMac configuration is:
2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB Graphics Card
RAM 32GB
macOS High Sierra

The question I have is if I can implement the CPU to the I7-3770k or if, on the contrary, it is preferable to upgrade to the processor you have, that is, the i7-2600. I also want to upgrade the GPU to the NVIDIA Quadro K3100, but perhaps you recommend using the K4100M.

Thank you
