Hi -
Question for the assembled:
I recently purchased a Dell E2009W 20" monitor that accepts VGA and DVI-D signal inputs. I'm having trouble connecting it via DVI-D to a C2D Aluminum iMac running Tiger, and not sure what's going on. Here's what I'm working with:
* Dell E2009W DVI-D monitor
* 6' DVI Digital Dual Link Cable
* Apple's Mini DVI to DVI adapter
When connected, the monitor says there's no signal coming from the iMac. Here's what I also know:
* The Mini-DVI to VGA adapter on the iMac will give a signal on the Dell monitor.
* The monitor works fine with the DVI-D cable connected directly to a MacBook Pro DVI out.
* The same configuration as above (Mini-DVI to DVI adapter + DVI cable to monitor) also doesn't work on Macbooks with a Mini-DVI port. I tested on a Macbook running Leopard.
Any ideas what's going on? I've seen some postings on the Apple forums suggesting that it's the adapter Apple is using, but am I missing something?
Thanks.
Edit: One other bit of information... I have two different Mini DVI to DVI adapters, and neither will produce a DVI signal on the Dell monitor. So it's not a faulty adapter, but something to do with how the adapter is parsing the signal from the iMac and Macbooks.
