I am looking for some view points to consider on which imac I should get because I never had an imac. I just last year bought myself an macbook black with 2 gig of ram and 2ghz intel core 2 duo, it was my first mac.

Here is what I was thinking

20"
2.4ghz intel core 2 duo
2 gig of ram
500gb hd

vs
any of 24"

I am right now paying lots of bills trying to save up for one. I have not went to the store to see if 4 inchs is really needed. I plan not to really use this to play any games or video editing. I need it for hooking into my stereo for music , a computer to burn dvd backups of files, a pc that I can leave on for tasks like basic web , email and other things. Some of the times I have things that need to go on over night like encoding dvd for backuping tivo. It takes to long some times to wait for it to encode them so I can watch the tivo episodes and other videos. I casually download a few things like tv episodes that do not air in the US that take a while via torrent.

So I want to leave this on , have like 9 spaces or so I can leave lots of programmings that I use daily running all day I can just walk up to it wake it up and contiune in whatever space I need to use. I want to use my macbook less and more for when i am away then when I am at home. I only have a macbook left , got rid of my pc.

Ps. Pretty lengthy , I am pretty wordy my bad.

If money is tight, I would look into getting a refurbished iMac. The specs you quoted will do the job quite nicely and then some. I have a 20" iMac, and use it as my home music player, and also for digital web content creation. It's similar to the specs you quoted, just more ram. Good luck with your purchase. :)
