So last night my iMac stopped loading websites. Did all the stuff I found on google to try and fix it. Nothing worked. WiFi is good, both chrome and safari won’t load pages. Must be something with computer. It’s older for sure but was working fine until I made a google doc into a word doc and saved it to my desktop. Wouldn’t connect again after that. Any ideas on how to fix would be appreciated. Thanks

Under System Preferences, Network, Advanced, Proxies, you may have something in there that got out of whack. Post a screen shot of this setting if you can?

Hmm everything looks OK there. Can you turn off Wi-Fi, then plug in a LAN cable to test internet?

Not sure how to do that. Let me do some research on my iPad. Thanks

Might have to wait to try that. My wife is using the WiFi today for work

Turn off the Wi-Fi on your iMac, not the Wi-Fi router :)

System Preferences -> Network -> Select Wi-Fi on the left, look for button "Turn Wi-Fi off"

😂😂. Yeah I’m too nervous to mess something up for the wife. I’ll research it some more. I’m a novice at all this stuff :)

You won't break anything by turning on the Wi-Fi on your iMac. Although I do see how pressing that button would sound intimidating to a novice :)

WiFi is off on my Mac. Just not sure if how to connect LAN to it. This is what I have going on. Do I just take yellow chord out of left device and plug it into Mac? Will that mess up wifi in the house? My wife is on a very important call at the moment so I can’t f up! :)

On the back of the device on the right (Arris router), you should see an empty/open LAN port, right next to where that yellow cable is plugged in. Get another LAN cable (don't use that yellow one going to the Wi-Fi or your will indeed take your wife offline :) ), and plug it in from the Arris, to the iMac.

Still not working :(

One issue is that your iMac is on a different subnet (47.40.73.xxx) than your router (47.40.72.1).

That is something that would have to fixed in the Arris, but we are venturing into uncharted territory considering the level of specificity you'll need to walk you through additional troubleshooting.

One more step you could try.. if your Wi-Fi box (Sagemcom) has a LAN port (it would be right next to where the yellow LAN cable is currently plugged in), you could try to plug the iMac in there.

Ok, thanks for your help! I decided to take it in. They were having the same issues at the shop. We’ll see what they say!
