Imac Newbie Needs Help With Reinstall!

I did the "Boot Camp" thing to install WinXP, during my attempt to install WinXP, I got an error and now my Imac will not run (No Bootable Drive Found). So I Figure I must have not been reading the screen prompts well because I think I selected the area of the HD that had the Mac OS! So I shut down and started the computer with the Mac os install disk with the intent to simply reinstall mac os. but when I get the "Select Destination" for installing, there are NO options listed... Any suggestions?

Restart the computer with the Leopard CD in the drive and go to utilities uptop and disk utility and reformat the whole drive since I think you most likely had windows reformat the wrong drive when you were setting up boot camp. This is why you should of printed the boot camp setup guide like it told you to do.

Sounds like you formatted your OSX partition to windows by mistake (yes XP installer is pretty crappy).

YOu have to use disk utility to format the partition you want OSX to sit on, back to Volume Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

restart the mahicne holding down the option key and see if it sees the mac HD or just the windows HD, if it does not see anything you killed your whole drive and have to wipe and reinstall

This is the same thing that happen to my iMac when i tryed to install XP via Bootcamp in Leopard. First off my copy of XP was from a Compaq CPU and i believe it was a Format and Install Version or XP. Because i had the same probelms with my install. First off i called Apple and they try to fix it for about 3 hours of rebooting and inserting OSX 10.5. In short they said take it back to the place you bought it. Well i am not going throught that, Computers Plus asked if i bought the extra Warrenty. It was freaking 2 days old, and they said bring it in and we can work something out. Lets just say Computers Plus lost a customer for life that day, College kids have no idea how to handle a phone call with out calling everybody Dude.

So this is how i fixed the iMac, First i had a external drive that i did back-ups to. I formated it throught Disk Utility, and installed OSX 10.5 on it. Then I booted the iMac with the External Drive and it worked! So then the real hard part started. I had a bootable copy of OSX 10.5 on the External drive and the iMac's internal wouldn't allow me to reformat and install OSX 10.5. What i thing happened is the XP formated it to Windows Standard, so OSX 10.5 couldn't reconize or even read the drive. I started looking for ways to reformate my Internal drive and found a way. I used Time Machine to formate it and then i reinstalled the OSX 10.5. Lets just say i wasn't very happy with Apple Tech support. Here i am 2 day old Mac Convert fixing a Apple Tech level problem, funny and sad at the same time. Lets just say i will not be buying a Apple care plan anytime in the future.

Now i am no Computer Expert, but i have a degree in Electronics and Computers so i knew that it was possiable to fix. If you have any questions or need more details on how i did this let me know.
