We're looking to buy an iMac for the first time after looking at reviews and general word of mouth.

Think we'll just be going for the 20" 2.66 version (I think?! or may go higher depending on cash!), and we're wanting to get it for Christmas.

Also heard that Apple will be 'refreshing' the iMac in the New Year, which got me wondering whether it'd be worth the wait in January for the newer versions?

Ideally, we'd like to go to the shop today or tomorrow to get it in time for Christmas, and somebody won't be too happy if we have to wait until January for it!

What are people's opinions?

Thanks!

I would say at least wait until the 2nd week of January. New iMacs will probably be out, which means you can either get a brand new one, or a current one at a discount.

And I do agree with the "need it now, buy it now" philosophy, but in this case we're very close to a new iMac announcement.

Looks like I'll be doing that then, hopefully worth the wait!

As a PC windows user - will the lowest iMac spec still be sufficient for my needs, which are pretty much based around media - itunes, web, e-mail, office etc.?

Yes, the lowest spec will be just fine. Make sure it has at least 2GB memory though.
