So,

I've sold my old iMac and I've wiped the operating system, and when I go to reinstall Mac OS after signing in with my Apple ID it keeps saying connection failed.

Any suggestions?

This is not clear; on WHICH machine are you (re?)installing what exactly and why?
Re-installing a fresh machine??? Installing a backup of your old machine???
;JOOP!

Okay...so, you sold your old iMac, wiped it cleaned to install new OS...well, before you wiped it, you forgot to enter the pass key for "finding my mac"...am I on the right track?

are you trying to setup to sell it if so why not just skip and let new owner do it /if not, is it connected to the internet as what it's saying. it best connected using ethernet when setting up.
