I'm wanting to buy a new MBP or iMac but all the rumors of new stuff coming this years makes me want to hold off.

What do you guys think?

The iMac just came out, so I don't think we'll see a refresh in that line until the fall. As for the MBP, now that Intel released the chipset needed for the computer line, people can make the logical jump that the media event rumored for March may very well include MBPs. I'd hold off on a laptop because Apple is getting closer to releasing those (even if it turns out that March was not the time).

What's the best bang for you buck imac now?

For me, it all depends on what you're looking for.

I think the 5k iMac - M395 with the 2TB Fusion drive is the best option. An alternative is swapping the 2TB Fusion drive out for a 256GB SSD.

Depending on your needs (you didn't state how you'll use the computer), the M390 5k iMac is a nice buy, just configure it with either a 256GB SSD or the 2TB Fusion drive. The 1TB fusion drive uses a paltry 24 GB flash storage, the 2TB drive has a more robust 128GB flash drive.

+1 I have the 2TB version of this. I need the space for large photo library and find this configuration offers a lot of bang for the buck for my needs. You can get this configuration frequently at $2,099 (or a bit less) at B&H....and depending on your state may not have to pay sales tax.

Yep that was me. I was tired of dealing with external drives and the 512GB SSD was too small, I'm happy with the 2TB Fusion drive

I picked one up at BB yesterday - have to love the online 10% off coupon. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

Stopped by microcenter and bought some extra RAM (they price matched Crucial)

just ordered mine on Sunday. i7 395x, 512GB adding my own 32GB RAM.
I wanted a little more internal storage over the 256GB but didn't want to go fusion, I have a 20TB Synology Diskstation for my main storage.
I also wanted a VESA iMac so I had to order it. It seems they are getting very quick and the BTO machines. I ordered late Sunday evening and it is supposed to be delivered at my home tomorrow(Thursday).

I think I am as excited for this one as I was my 2009 27". Jumping to 1440p back then was huge for me, I've looked at the 5K's in the store but can't wait for this one to be sitting in front of me at home.

I thought there might be a refresh in May? There was last year.
The May update was less an update but rather a new configuration for the 5k iMac, nothing more. I don't see Apple doing anything in May for the iMac - just my $.02.

I recently bought a 21.5 inch late 2015 iMac. I upgraded it to 256GB SSD because it's 2016 and who the hell has 5400RPM spinning drives any more.

I'm utterly thrilled with it. The screen is amazing (can you imagine the horror of not having a Retina display -- how did we cope?).

How much better can these things get?

for the next upgrades if you want the 21.5" you have to wait the HD580 is an significant upgrade alone, but even for 27" if they go Polaris its ok if they go nvidia with 980M or 990M its even nicer...but the imac probably will be updated earliest June or latest Oct
