My experience is that PCs become slow because they become encrusted with crap of various types which don't generally exist on Macs. Macs become slow when you don't have enough RAM or free HD space.

There is no TV tuner built into a Mac. See Elgato's EyeTV.

I think the problems you have had with windows is due to the registry windows uses. I bet if Microsoft could they would change this in a second but now with all the software that needs it they are stuck. You shouldn't have these same problems with a Mac due to the way the Mac works with it's programs.

I 100% agree. The Windows registry is a complete mess. I don't know why they couldn't have changed the registry with Vista... almost every thing else changed.

The registry in Windows is the reason the computer slows. Installing and then uninstalling apps leaves it a mess. Most people don't have the knowledge to deal with it properly and using third party utilities usually makes things worse as the advanced modes require more knowledge of what should and should not be removed.

I did regular maintenance on my PCs without fail, but still experienced problems and slowing systems. Once a year I would do a clean install just to get back most of the performance. I got tired of it and recently bought my first Mac. I won't go back to using a PC as my main system. I still have my most recent PC and will use it for grunt work, storage and to run some apps that are dedicated to it such as Autocad.

I just came from my GFs house and before that I was at my Mom's house. Both their PCs were screwed up and needed attention. I am now pushing Macs for both of them. :)

Another reason for PCs getting slower is due to their hard drive management. There are lots of people that don't know about defragmenting their computer and there are lots of people that don't do it on a regular basis or just don't schedule it. With Macs, you don't have to worry about this as the operating system handles it.

You also have to worry about spyware slowing down your computer in addition to using up your HDD space. Once you are below a certain amount you start to have a lot of fragmentation that creates some problems.
