Well I bought my Imac used from a friend right? Well, I went to install Final Cut pro and some other editing programs on it since I edit. Well to do this I need the password for the computer. I have no idea what it is and I'm pretty sure the kid doesn't know either.
Is there a password recovery or something that can help me?

thanks...

Do you have the install disks that came with the computer?

If so, put the first one in and boot from it. When you get to the installation part, the menu bar should show at the top, you may need to move your mouse up there to show it.

There will be an item under one of the menus that will allow you to change the password.

No install disks either...
Could I find one somewhere and use that?
Or am I pretty much screwed?
I bought this for 800 dollars like brand new basically I knew it was a good deal but without the password I can't do what I bought it for really.

No problem, just create a new admin type user

If you already spent $800, what's $100 more to buy an install disk to let you rebuild your system if you have a drive failure or some other issue?

good idea.

ill consider that but im trying to do this without any other money...

but If i do that what would I do? Just re install everything on the computer?

If I would buy something for $800 I'm sure as hell I would be all over his ass to give me the password.
Weird story tbh.

well i dont think he remembers it.

so idk what to do...
I need to figure this out quick though so whats my best bet?

dont want to go witch hunting, but something tells me you're just trying to find a way to log on someone's computer without their permission...

yeah i read that.
well idk if he stole it i dont think he did.

but Im on the administrator account but i just need this so damn.

so im on my administrator account.
i have the master password for the safe vault thing
i just dont know the login password...

if no one pointed this out my brother had a problem and he found somehting on the apple site that got him the pw but i dont rember google it

If your current user ID is an admin account, then you can create a new user.

Be sure the new user can administer the computer. There is a check box you need to select at the bottom of the dialog for the new user information.

Note, if the original person has the iMac locked down, so to speak, you will not be able to do this because it will ask for your password to add a user account.

If this doesn't work, you could always purchase Leopard.

i dont see where to make a new account.
i had already thought about this...

wont let me do that..
so i guess try that link i posted?

Just to clarify: your friend sold you his iMac w/o the system disks and doesn't remember his Admin password? Does he not remember or does he just not want to give you his pssword? If it's the latter, just have him come over and enter his password so you can create a new User Admin. That said, it sounds like either you stole it, or he stole it and sold it to you. Either return it or get your money back.

Although it smell very fishy here but if you paid 800 bucks for it and the person who sold it for you had no idea about his own password... This iMac could have been a stolen one....

Have you contacted that kid who you bought the iMac from?
