hi, my imac had been turning off by itself these two days, and I need to wait for around 15-20 min to get it working back on again. I have just bought an 320gb external hdd ibook a week ago, i suspect that it may be the cause for the power faliure to happen.

I have bought this imac for 1 and a half years. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

edited: the imac turns off by itself while im using boot camp

Does it turn off at other times too or only while using boot camp? Sounds to me like it could be caused by overheating (maybe a failed fan). Ive not heard of this on imacs, but it would make sense that it would turn off then not turn on until it had time to cool down a bit?

hi, thanks for ur reply. Yup, at first i thought it was the cause of overheating too. so i let it cool down awhile, around 2 hours, before turning on again. but the problems insists on a few times until now again. it happens during restarting too.

External drives is highly unlikely to be the source of shutting down.

If it only happens in windows, then it's a Windows problem, not iMac power issue.

Did you install the proper drivers that are located on the Leopard DVD?

does it just power itself off or shut down via the normal windows shutdown procedure?
Does it power off when using the Mac partition?

I think you may have a virus in windows, install a checker.

To check your temperatures and fan speeds install Istatpro on your Mac partition.

iMAc Shuts Down

I also have the shutdown problem. 20 in., 2.4 ghz with Leopard. At ANY time is is prone to just black out the screen and will do so again upon re-booting and then maybe work fine again 'till the next time. This started the first week after purchasing. When it re-boots, it'll go right back to the same screen. No Windows installed.

It just power off by itself, black screen. it happens once before when booting into mac, but not in mac desktop itself. By the way, im using mac tiger os.
