Hi!
I'm wondering which iMac should I buy and I will really appreciate getting your advice!
I'm a software engineer and I work mostly on apps creation (for iOS and Android) and on desktop games programming.

Currently, I have an old iMac which I like to replace (2011), so I'm interested in getting the iMP, as it seems like it has good computing power.

The softwares I use: Autodesk Maya, 3D Max, Unreal Engine 4, IntelliJ (+ Android Studio) and Visual Studio.

So I'd love to get your advice about which configurations should I change from the base model to get the best results compared to money invest. I wish it to do VR programming too and worried it might not be well enough for that in the base configurations. Which means, I can afford to pay more if the configurations justify that, but I don't wanna waste money on lost compute power.

Thanks a lot for any help!! :)

The iMac Pro should be able to handle those programs very well. If you're doing a lot of complex 3D rendering, you'll benefit from the iMac Pro's workstation CPU and GPU options.

Get as powerful a machine as your budget will allow. I might spring for faster GPUs instead of faster CPUs. I use Blender which can render on the GPU rather than the CPU (which is usually faster for a lower price), but I'm not sure if Maya and 3ds Max can render on the GPU. If they can, I'd spend more on the GPU than the CPU. I also don't know how you use a computer, so you could probably get away with only 8GB of RAM, but I'd recommend 16GB or more.

It should be great for games programming with the vega 64. One major caveat here though if you want to make use of Nvidia acceleration for your desktop games you will need an external gpu to run a Nvidia card to test on.
