I have read somewhere on this forum, that somebody have said, that the upcoming iMac Pro will have a new and better display than iMac 5K. Is that true? Because I can't find anything about that on google.

Going by the specifications advertised on Apple's website, the display is exactly the same as the one in the 2017 5K iMac. And I don't think it needs to be any better (at least while 8K is still cost-prohibitive).

They could work with the uniformity, så it would have a perfect screen like Eizo ColorEdge.

The question for me is whether it will run at 120hz like the iPad Pro or 144hz like other monitors. Apple has been driving 5K at 60hz for a few years now, so doubling the refresh rate might not be such a big ask.

For me, seeing a new iPad running at 120hz was like seeing a Retina display for the first time - difficult to adjust back. I'm actually thinking to cancel my 5K iMac order (delayed because of th 512GB SSD) and see what the winter brings for iMac Pro.

All 5K panels in production are 60Hz only. Also, all the current DisplayPort standards (up through 1.4) only support 60Hz at 5K resolutions.

Totally agree, but wasn't this similar when the 5K iMac launched? A single DP cable didn't support 5K60 and Dell's 5K monitor came out about the same time. 5K120 would be similar in resolution terms to running two 12.9" iPad Pros side by side...

Or maybe I'm dreaming

DisplayPort standards ... only support 60Hz at 5K resolutions.
The internal display would not be restricted by the DisplayPort specs, so Apple could double the refresh rate.

I do not think Apple would cram 8K into the 27" screen size, but rather go for the as Dell with its 31.5" 8K panel.

Yes, Apple could probably come up with a custom interconnect and then pay LG to create a 120Hz LCD panel. However, said panel would add a significant price hike to the iMac due to the design and production costs involved (as it would only be used in iMacs, you would not get the production scale price reductions you do for current 60Hz LCD panels).

doing that would be admitting regular macs have uniformity issues, something apple would not want to do or draw attention to.

People are having heart attacks over the base price as it is. They probably have a stroke on top of a heart attack if they had to pay the price it would be with an Eizo quality 5k screen.

Eizo don't even make 5k screens and the 4k ones they sell now cost more then a full iMac does.

It's going to be 10bit display with 30bit colour. Vega GPU with Display port 1.4 and Metal 2 API (with improved support) both offer the support for HDR & 10bit display. Apple advertises that iMac Pro can produce 10bit colours with better gradients. But it still could be 100% same display as iMac 5k.

PS. Most likely we're going to see ProMotion in macOS 10.14 next year. Maybe external HDR 1000 nits display along Mac Pro 2018?

All speculation at this point. I'm sure quite a bit is going to change by the time it actually ships.

It says "5120‑by‑2880 resolution with support for billions of colors" for the iMac Pro
vs "5120‑by‑2880 resolution with support for one billion colors" for the iMac 27" 5K.
That would imply 12-bit instead of 10-bit color. Maybe same screen but 12-bit GPU.

Edit: under the "Video Support and Camera" section it says with external displays it
Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at 1 billion colors and:
so either one's a typo or the Pro screen reverts to 10-bit when attaching external displays.

AMD Vega supports natively 10 bit (30 bit) colors, and so does Metal 2. No official support for more. Apple's billions of colors can come out with dithering only. Or maybe with two different monitors with different colour space... :p Marketing...

Update: Samsung seems to be using similar claim of "Billions of colours" and then just under the same text it reads: 1.07 bn colours...

Ok, I haven't looked it up, I just googled Vega 10-bit & 12-bit and someone on reddit had written (but it was a year ago and might not be valid) that Vega supported 12-bit for SDR/HDR and Polaris supported 12-bit but only for SDR.
Apple mentioned "over a billion" colors on some other Mac page so they use that expression as well as "one billion".

i wonder why Apple will not realease imac pro with BT 5.0? Apple should release any new product that come after iphone 8/X with BT 5.0, that includes any new mac
