Basically the title..

I play and make music for a living, and currently I have the macbook pro 13 from 2019. It's ok for my needs, since it's extremely portable, but I want both a bigger screen laptop for work and everyday use and a 5k iMac (for mixing music, and for the screen in general).

But getting the base price iMac Pro would also be great for me, but I don't really want to buy it now, since I'm hoping a refresh will happen soon.

I live in Austria and would be buying:

option A) the 3000 euros Macbook pro 16 (8 core, 16gb, 1tb ssd, amd 5500 4gb) and, for arouns 3200€, an 8 core 2019 5k imac (with 580x and 1tb ssd).

option B) I would get the base iMac Pro - maybe even refurbished for 4699€.

If I get the macbook 16+imac (option A), I would sell my current 13 inch, so that would get me about 1500€.
If I go for the iMac Pro (option B), I would keep my 13 inch.

So in the end, both options would cost the same, which makes me really confilcted. Should I just wait for the updated imac/imac pro?

Or should I only get the 16 inch and buy a nice dell ultrawide screen?

Any advice?

MacBook Pro and LG 5k. i have the 5k—despite what you might read on MR, they’re great.

What is this Dell Ultrawide you speak of?

If you're looking for a 5K iMac quality screen, I think your best bet is an LG 5K.

I mean, a 16 inch MBP is enough for your needs and the LG 5K and a Thunderbolt 3 connection will give you the 5K iMac experience without dropping another couple grand on a second machine.

Those Dell ultrawide will have nowhere near the definition of an iMac 5K display. A 3440x1440 34" Dell ultrawide will have around the same detail as a 21" 1080p monitor or 27" 1440p monitor (around 105 PPI). LG has a 5120x2160 34" ultrawide. Which is considerably better as it is the same as a 27" 4K display at (about 165 PPI). If you want Apple's detail (218 PPI). Only a 27" 5K monitor will do. In which case as @Glockworkorange stated. You'll need the LG 5K display. Which as far as I can tell is the only 5K still on the market. Anything else appears to be discontinued old stock.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I think I'll just sell my 13 inch, and get the new 16 inch - I think the 8 core 4,8ghz i9, 16gb ram, 5500m 8gb (only a 100€ more than the 4gb) and 1tb ssd would suit me well. The only alternative would be getting the 6core version with 1tb ssd and 32 gb for the exact same price.

And I'll see how comfortable using logic pro will be on the bigger screen and much better specs, and decide whether I want a new screen or the new iMac then.
