After my iMacPro finally arrived, i did some Tests on OSX HS and Win10.
i did buy the Cheap version with the Vega56 cause i knew th VEGA64 sucks anyway.
I invested my Upgrade Cash instead in a Aktio Node TB3 Case +Nvidia Titan Xp Collectors Edition hooked up to 1 x Sony 75" X940E and 1 x HP Z27s .

Thanks for posting this! Had been thinking about going for an iMac with eGPU results and it's great to have some actual figures.

How easy is the egpu setup on the Mac side with NVIDIA? Been having a look at around the various forums but haven't managed to find a clear answer. Is it just a matter of plug it in and get the web drivers, or is further hackery still involved?

The e-GPU Install under Both OS was / is pretty simple with any Thunderbold3 MAC, there was a little Problem with the iMac Pro MAC OS ( for now it is a Special Build and needs some minor Terminal Editing ) but not to Hard to accomplish.

I recommend http://egpu.io for some Input, there are some pretty good People in the Forum there.

i did start in mid 2015 with some E-GPU Try outs on my own with Thunderbold2 MAcPro6.1 and Imac5k Mdi2015 but it was just too much work and Coding. and not Stable at all.

with Thunderbold3 and a MAcbook Pro 15" Touch i got some nice Results ,still the CPU Power of a Macbook was not enough for my needs.

on iMac5k 2017 i7 or iMac Pro i can say for sure #e-Gpu is Rock Solid and worth the EXTRA Cash.

Thanks for the reply and that's good to hear; minor tinkering is definitely doable, and having checked out e-gpu.io it appears that it is pretty straightforward. Probably end up going for the Vega 64, as for compute stuff it seems pretty decent and has a bit more ram (or does it really suck?), but will probably end up getting a 1080 for the CUDA apps and gpu rendering.

[doublepost=1516218405][/doublepost]in my opinion, just save the cash for the upgrade VEGA64 and buy a GTX1080TI / TITAN Pascal as an Egpu upgrade , you will still have the VEGA56.

Had a quick google it worked out surprisingly well; it'd 500eur* more than getting the Vega 64. Will definitely look into it :)

* 1080GTX with 11GB and Akito Node (didn't really shop around so could probably find it cheaper).
